In Praise of Barlavento Hospital, Portimão

Dear Editor,

I am writing this open letter to say a big thank you to all staff, doctors, nurses, etc, for the fantastic way they looked after my dear wife, Evelyn. She was in their intensive care unit for five weeks before eventually losing her battle for life.

To all ex-pats: we have a fabulous, free (with a European Health Insurance Card) hospital here in the Algarve; scrupulously clean, ultra-modern equipment and, most of all, caring and passionate staff that all speak good English. I am afraid to say that I think it puts the UK’s NHS to shame!

Once again, on behalf of all my family, thank you Barlavento Hospital.

Yours sincerely,

Merv Elding
