PORTIMÃO IS playing host to in-line skaters from around Portugal this weekend, to raise awareness of the sport, which proved so popular in the early 90s.
Since the turn of the millennium, the popularity of in-line skating has rapidly declined in Portugal and so the Inline Futuro and Sketch organisations have planned three days of skating events from September 16-18, at the skate park in Portimão’s Parque da Juventude.
Individual competitions will be held for amateur and professional skaters, with over 50 skaters expected to attend from Portugal, Spain and England.
Five competitions will take place on Saturday, including contests for best trick, best team and the most creative trick. On Sunday, there will be competitions and events as part of an initiative to encourage youngsters to take up the activity.
