Due to the extremely warm weather, the Algarve Senior Bikers (ASB) did not participate in the usual organised monthly ride. Instead, on August 18, member Mike Sanders organised a social lunch at the Moto Clube in Faro.
The bikers welcomed Mark Rink, Jorge Pereira and Peter Graf from iMERGENCIES – ECDE International.
Many ASB members are now registered with this service. After lunch, Jorge gave a short explanation of how the service works and went on to present one of the company’s emergency buttons to lead rider Brian Evans who introduced the system to the group.
In future, Brian will carry the ‘red button’, which has built-in GPS location and can be used to call for assistance should he need to do so.
ASB organiser David Shirley said: “This service must surely be advantageous to many of us of a certain age and not just those involved in motorcycling.”
iMERGENCIES (www.imergencies.com) offers a scheme particularly useful to those who live alone or have ongoing health problems. The system “takes all the worry out of any emergency situation” and covers incidents such as accident, burglary, fire and sudden illness.
The next ASB event will be on Tuesday, September 13. Meet at São Marcos da Serra for a ride to Santa Clara, organised by John Redding and Alain Balouzet. Further information will be available at www.algarveseniorbikers.com
