Considered to be one of the best countries for raising children, Sweden is aiming to improve its record yet again by offering even more classes to help parents improve their parenting skills.
Even though all parents of newborns are currently offered classes and discussion groups to ease them into parenthood, the state is now expanding its free-for-all education to parents of older children as well. Over the past two years, the number of parents taking part in such classes has more than doubled, increasing from two per cent in 2004 to seven per cent last year, according to the Swedish National Institute of Public Health (SNIPH). The Institute’s goal is to reach some 30 to 40 per cent.
