IMM creates Laço hub “to find solutions for metastatic breast cancer”

Survival rates for women treated for breast cancer run at around 85%, but once the cancer has metastasized chances of recovery plummet to 30%. This is the reason for the creation of Laço hub, at IMM – Portugal’s Institute of Molecular Medicine. Involving scientists, doctors and nurses – and dedicated to patients suffering from metastasized breast cancer – it will be seeking to find answers. As IMM’s director Maria Manuel Mota explains: “We still don’t know why some cancers metastasize and others don’t…” The news comes as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day is due on October 13.
