A new exhibition launched by Galeria Corte-Real in Paderne presents a collection of decorative mirrors alongside its usual range of international art.

Corte-Real commissioned interior designer Tom Compton to produce an exclusive range of hand-made framed mirrors.

Emulating ideas promoted in England during the Arts and Craft Movement, he has designed and made the frames by hand, creating antiqued effects using gilded paintwork, French damask wallpapers and rich fabrics. Some frames incorporate shells and tiny pebbles collected from Algarve beaches, while others have a distinctly Renaissance feel embellished with floral motifs, scrolls, volutes and fragmented glass.

The Galeria Corte-Real is open Thursday until Sunday, from 11am until 5pm.
