An application for a purpose-built pet care centre at the Merrylegs Pet Resort in Areeiro, Loulé, has been rejected by Loulé Câmara and has led to the demolition of 15 illegally built kennels.
The owners of the kennels told the Algarve Resident: “We are disappointed that the license was not granted and we had to demolish most of our kennels.”
They said that Merrylegs was still open and they were looking for other alternatives to continue the business.
“It has been so difficult that we may have to move back to the UK and abandon the whole thing,” they added.
A spokesman for Loulé Câmara said that there was opposition to the kennels in the residential area and that they had been illegally built, which led to the decision for their demolition.
