Illegal Iraqi escapes

AN IRAQI citizen escaped last week from the facilities of the immigration authority (SEF) at Faro Airport after he had been taken there to wait for a court order for his deportation.

The SEF head director in the Algarve, José Van Der Kellen, told newspaper Correio da Manhã that the “man has still not been found” and declined to comment on any relation between this case and the recent terrorist threats in Portugal.

The man was originally detained while walking in a street in Faro because he was not carrying any documents with him. After being taken to court, he was ordered to wait at Faro airport’s SEF facilities but ran away as soon as he arrived there.

Police authorities do not know how long the man had been in the country or if he had any connections with terrorist groups.
