Illegal immigrants to Portugal ordered to leave country after SEF swoop

Border control inspectors initiated a country-wide swoop on illegal immigrants last week, checking 265 lodging houses known to be “used by suspects who stay in Portugal for short periods of time to realise illicit activities”. One foreign national was arrested, two others were ordered to leave the country and 981 foreigners in total were checked. Nineteen ‘hotels’ were fined for failing to inform the authorities of their guests’ nationalities.
