CAMPING IN undesignated areas in Portugal is illegal, according to the Portuguese federation for camping and mountaineering (FCMP).

Following an article The Resident published about littering along the western Algarve coast line from illegal tourist campers (see May 23 edition), the national camping federation’s director, Francisco Leitão, sent a statement which said that camping in undesignated areas is illegal in Portugal.

He also said that the federation helps campers and motor home owners who request information or assistance and advises them about the regulations in Portugal.
