A false fire alarm led to the evacuation of the IKEA furniture shop in Alfragide recently, giving staff the opportunity to see whether it is possible to leave the furniture store within minutes rather than hours. The automatic alarm system was accidentally triggered at 7.15pm by a vehicle manoeuvring in the warehouse area. “All the emergency doors were opened and those with children were evacuated from the site within three minutes,” a spokesperson from the store’s public relations department said. The source added that, after three minutes, everyone was informed that it was a false alarm and they could return to the shop.
