IGT gains recognition

The Iberian Golf Tour, IGT has been officially recognised by Turismo Portugal, as a tournament of importance and interest for tourism in Portugal.

The decision was based on the increasing interest in the tour both in Portugal and in Andalucía, Spain by golfing professionals and amateurs.

Pedro Silva of the IGT said: “We are very pleased that the national tourism authorities have recognised and validated the IGT.”

He added “We hope that next season the IGT can be elevated to a higher level both in prize money terms, number of events and attractiveness for many players from the region and abroad.”

Stages of the IGT have already been played at the Pestana Courses, Quinta do Vale and Castro Marim.

Portuguese golfer Ricardo Santos is currently leading the tour with Spanish player Alberto Dóniga-Lara lying in second.
