‘Cinderella’ will be playing at Carlos de Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa in November
As children head back to school, The Algarveans theatre group are already working on their next production. Last year’s typical British pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, proved so popular with audiences that the English-speaking thespians are returning with another family-friendly show.
The Algarveans are excited (Oh no they’re not – Oh yes they are!) to perform Cinderella, written by Alan Frayn and directed by Tracey Christiansen.
This beloved fairy tale is given a humorous twist. In true “panto” style, there are goodies and baddies, hissing and booing, outrageous costumes and visual jokes galore. Everyone knows that our heroine Cinderella longs to go to the royal ball though she is thwarted by the gloriously camp Ugly Sisters … but we all know who comes to the rescue! There will be topical and local references, catchy show tunes and terrific dance numbers to entertain audiences. And spectator participation is most definitely encouraged. Last year’s crowds certainly didn’t hold back!
Director Tracey Christiansen is thrilled to have found new talent to join this year’s cast, all aiming to provide an evening or afternoon of great entertainment to delight both young and old.
As always, the theatre group would love to hear from you if you are interested in joining The Algarveans. “We’re a friendly bunch, always happy to welcome new members to help us on stage or backstage.” See website for more details – the algarveans.com
‘Cinderella’ will be playing at the Carlos de Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa on November 17 and 18, at 7.45pm, with matinées on November 18 and 19, at 2pm. Tickets priced at €15 will be on sale in a few weeks – watch this space.
