The leader of Portugal’s Liberal Initiative Party (IL) said today that if the prime minister ensures he is not interested in a plum European job, “it is likely” that he is. Rui Rocha perpetuated the seemingly interminable ‘will he, won’t he’ media round of questioning, saying:“Looking at what is the record of the prime minister I would say that if he assures that he is not interested in a European role, it is likely that he is interested in a European role. We have a long history of statements from António Costa that are promises, things that he does not fulfil and so maybe this is a sign that in fact there is some interest…”
