Dom Pedro Victoria Golf in Vilamoura is recognised as one of the finest golf courses in the world. Designed by the late and legendary Arnold Palmer, Victoria has hosted every Portugal Masters since 2007 when the inaugural event was staged.
Dom Pedro Golf is a major player in Portugal’s distinguished golf tourism market, boasting one of Europe’s best golf portfolios. In addition to Victoria, the group owns four other Vilamoura championship courses including the fabled Old Course, Millennium Golf Course, Pinhal Golf Course and Laguna Golf Course. The Victoria course is revered by both professional and amateur golfers and enjoys its worthy status as a very special, iconic venue.
The Portugal Masters will again be savoured by a worldwide TV audience, to showcase the Victoria course and further enhance its global reputation for fantastic golf against a backdrop of stunning, natural beauty. From its opening in 2004, the Victoria course was hailed as one of Portugal’s greatest ever golf projects.
Covering some 90 hectares, it encompasses a complete golf complex including exceptional driving range and expansive putting green. Such qualities have made it a location of choice for many top international tournaments staged in Portugal and, in addition to hosting the Masters since 2007, the 2005 World Cup Championship was also staged at Victoria.
The Algarve’s distinctive splendour has been sensitively harnessed to create this Par-72 Championship course of 6,651 metres (7,273 yards) from the Palmer tees. Preservation of natural wetlands and the typical vegetation of carob, olive and almond trees are distinctive – and also undoubtedly challenging – dimensions of Victoria.
The course is also characterised by several water features, including lakes which form hazards and also provide eco-friendly reservoirs for irrigation. Victoria genuinely offers a true test of golf for top class international players, but the various teeing options also accommodate every kind of golfer.
Amateurs of all handicap levels may enjoy treading the same path as internationally renowned, golfing greats. Victoria’s wide, undulating fairways, subtle water hazards and cleverly positioned bunkers all pose constant, yet realistic, challenges for any golfer.
Of course, the beauty of the venue will not be lost on the stellar professionals competing for the 2019 Portugal Masters title, although their main sights will be firmly focused on conquering a fantastic golf course and lifting the Portugal Masters trophy on Sunday afternoon.
