The famous Evaristo restarant located on Evaristo beach in Albufeira was almost completely destroyed by a fire last night (October 26).
Firefighters were called to the scene shortly before midnight but the flames were only brought under control at around 2.36am, reports Correio da Manhã.
No one was hurt, and the cause of the fire – which was battled by 32 firefighters from Lagoa, Albufeira and São Bartolomeu de Messines aided by 13 vehicles – is unknown. GNR and maritime police were also called to the scene.
Evaristo had already been the victim of a fire caused by a gas explosion which destroyed part of the restaurant in 2019, which had since been rebuilt.
The restaurant was one of the most iconic in Albufeira, having opened in 1986.
