The artist’s works were created in Tavira
An exhibition of oil paintings by well-known Icelandic artist Páll Solnes, entitled ‘The North Versus The South’, will be on display at Art Gallery Rua da Silva 4 in Tavira.
Says gallery owner Ester Lörinc, Páll Solnes visited the Art Gallery Rua da Silva 4 residency in June 2023, “and I am proud to present his beautiful works created here in Tavira”.
He was born in 1953 in Akureyri, Northern Iceland, and had his education in academic drawing in Copenhagen at The Royal School of Design and Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, between 1974-1982.
He has had 33 solo exhibitions from 1980 until now.
Ester continues: “His works are never directly interpretable as figurative objects. Yet they speak to me strongly about light and colour in tune with my inner representation of the surroundings.
“Maybe the best way to describe his works is … ‘landscape paintings floating in your subconscious mind’.”
The gallery is situated at Rua da Silva 4 in Tavira and will be open on Thursdays, October 19 and 26, and November 2, from 5pm to 9pm.
