Iberian lynx fundraising walk-run scheduled for October

Silves and Monchique councils are teaming up to host three outdoor activities to help raise money for the protection of the Iberian lynx.

Scheduled for Saturday, October 8, there is a trail walk in Silves (12kms), a trail run (same distance) or a longer 30km run, taking in Monchique, for people to choose from.

Entitled ‘Trail do Lince’, the activities are open to anyone who wants to help the cause.

To take part, people have to purchase a €20 Iberian lynx soft toy at any Fnac store or online – €5 of the cost will go to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Portuguese League for Nature Protection (LPN), two organisations that “actively” contribute to the protection of this species that was in danger of extinction before a major reproduction programme.

Trail runners will also have to spend an extra €10 to sign up for the shorter events, or €15 for the race in Monchique.

The event, which will be held for the second year, is organised by marketing company Fire! and the Algarve’s Trail Running Association.
