WHILE WATCHING a cookery programme recently, I heard the female cook explain that she was wearing polythene gloves because she was handling raw meat – nothing wrong in that, I hear you cry. But she qualified the statement by saying that this saved her from having to wash her hands after handling the meat.
This was, in my opinion, a lazy and dangerous way of viewing hygiene in the kitchen. My fingernails are quite long and, as a result, I puncture these types of gloves. Regardless, I felt that the message was wrong and, in my opinion, there can be nothing more important.
There are plenty of products available to help you keep your hands and your kitchen surfaces clean. My personal favourites are both from the Dettol stable. The hand-wash and the surface spray.
