This controversial film, which provoked both walkouts and a standing ovation when it was premiered at the Cannes film festival, tells the dramatised story of Bobby Sands, the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) member who led the 1981 hunger strike to win political prisoner status.
Sands, played by Michael Fassbender, is the focus of the film which shows the events in the Maze prison six weeks before he dies. One of the most notable scenes shows Sands debating the morality of his actions, which he deeply believes in, to a visiting priest.
