The highly successful Che Lagoense badminton club, home to Olympians Pedro Martins and Telma Santos, had further grounds for celebrations at last weekends national junior championships in Évora.
Up and coming Algarve stars Ruben Figueiro, Mariana Leite, Francisco Carretas, Ricardo Silva, Mariana Araujo, Angelo Silva and Mariana Chang amassed nine titles from a total of 20 available in the U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 categories clearly demonstrating their superiority over the other 31 clubs involved.
Meanwhile, the Lagoa senior team members led by Martins and Santos are on their way to Hungary to compete in the European club championships. From Tuesday, the Portuguese title holders will face Group D opposition from Russia, Switzerland, Italy and Denmark in what should prove to be the perfect preparation for the club’s two London-bound star performers.
