Hundreds of fish die in Costa Vicentina rivers

The lack of water in the south of Portugal is causing problems in streams and rivers, most markedly this week along the Costa Vicentina: in Aljezur hundreds of fish have died in recent weeks due to the impact of the drought, recent bad weather and summer fires, said a local authority source. António Carvalho, the councillor responsible for the environment, stresses that the lack of water in the rivers and streams is causing the tides to drag in sediment and block outlets to the sea, creating areas where fish become blocked and end up dying.
