Event takes place this weekend
The second edition of the Portimão Box Cup will take place this weekend (May 13-15) at the Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo sports complex in the heart of town, with 260 boxers from eight countries and 44 clubs seeking to prove their worth.
The event is organised by the Portimão Boxing School (EBP) and will feature boxers of both sexes aged between 13 and 40 and divided into five ranks.
The ideia for the competition came from EBP president Carlos André Reis, who wanted to provide his boxers with an opportunity to compete at a high-level within their own country.
Hopes are that the event will help them “mature and progress as boxers.”
Around 500 people are expected to take part, including boxers, coaches, referees and club leaders and staff.
Admission is free. The full programme can be found online.
