Hundreds of boxers to compete at Portimão Box Cup

Over 350 boxers from 10 European countries will be competing at the third edition of the Portimão Box Cup, which will take place between Friday, May 26 and Sunday, May 28.

The competition will bring together 66 teams representing the following countries: Portugal, Spain, England, Norway, Ireland, Switzerland, Netherlands, France, Wales and Croatia.

Matches will be played at two rings set up at the Portimão Arena, which is expected to host over 200 fights during the three-day event.

The event will begin on Friday, May 26 at 11am, followed by a break at 2pm, while the opening ceremony is scheduled for 6pm. Matches will start at 2pm on the second and third days of the competition, with breaks scheduled for 4pm and 6pm on both days. The award ceremony is due to take place at 8.30pm on Sunday, May 28, although this may change depending on how long matches last.

One-day tickets cost €5 while three-day tickets cost €10 and can be purchased online or at Portimão Arena, the municipal Tempo theatre or Portimão museum. Admission is free for children up to the age of 11 as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Half of all proceeds will go to A Catraia, a temporary shelter for minors, and Casa Nossa Senhora da Conceição, a shelter for children and youngsters in need.

The event is organised by Associação Escola Boxe Portimão, which aims to promote boxing and provide athletes with a high-level competition which allows them to “learn and evolve.”
