A human skeleton has been found today in Torres Vedras. Accounts explain that firefighters called to a small fire in scrubland came upon the skeleton “quite by chance”. Early reports suggested it “had been there for some time” (!) The skeleton was close to a dirt track that leads to a viaduct on the A8 motorway, but other than this, there does not sound a great deal for investigators to go on. UPDATE: subsequent reports have described a gold chain around the neck of the skeleton, and a woman’s handbag (“very deteriorated”) close by. These may give investigators a clue to the identity of the victim. According to Correio da Manhã, records of missing people in the Greater Lisbon Area will now be “one of the paths of investigation” while forensic tests will be undertaken to determine the sex of the victim.
