Houses destroyed

Waves up to five metres in height have destroyed houses on the Fuzeta island near Faro.

Properties built on the island were destroyed on Monday afternoon after the combination of a south east sea swell, strong winds and spring high tides led to waves reaching the buildings.

Five homes were destroyed on Monday, taking the total number of houses knocked down by the waves to 10 on the island.

There were no casualties involved and forecasts for the region show

that the weather is due to improve over the coming week with wave heights reducing.
