Hotels expect little impact from new Covid-19 restrictions

Hoteliers in the Algarve are not expecting the new Covid-19 measures announced last week – which include the need for hotel guests to present a Covid-19 certificate – to have a significant impact on the sector.

“The impact will be residual as demand towards the end of the year comes mostly from national tourists who will have no trouble presenting a certificate as the vast majority of the population is vaccinated,” Elidérico Viegas, president of the Algarve hoteliers association (AHETA), told Lusa news agency.

Viegas did admit, however, that the requirement for arriving passengers in Portugal to present a negative Covid-19 test may keep away some tourists who were thinking about travelling to the Algarve.

The AHETA boss added that the measures would have a stronger impact if they had been implemented during the summer.
