THE RESIDENT was invited to the Palácio Hotel to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the five-star hotel set in the heart of Estoril. The hotel, steeped in history, has provided accommodation for some of the world’s most famous people. Like many of its famous visitors, the Palácio Hotel is growing old gracefully. It is now being re-vamped to a high standard of luxury. No expense has been spared on the comfort of each and every one of the hotel’s bedrooms and social areas. We visited one of the 16 luxurious duplex-type accommodation units. Each unit is set on two floors, so going upstairs to the bedroom gives you a feeling of being at home instead of being in a hotel. The management takes pride in its ability to maintain its staff – one of the doormen has worked at the hotel for 50 years! B.H.
