As details of its festive programme sparkle on the Internet, news comes that Praia da Rocha’s 5-star Hotel Algarve Casino will be hit by a strike over the New Year.
Workers have decided on their walk out on New Year’s Eve as a way of “pressuring” management, writes Lusa news agency.
At issue are work contracts negotiated between the workers’ syndicate and AIHSA (the hotel association), which the hotel staff want to see implemented.
Lusa reports that the hotel workers want to meet with management to discuss their “concerns and proposals” for 2014 – but that the company has this far refused.
The hotel staff union points out that in the space of a year “1300 jobs have disappeared” from the hotel sector in the region – most of them affecting people not entitled to receive unemployment benefit, adds Lusa.
