With temperatures tipping 30°C each day in the Algarve, animals are as much at risk as humans with Bridget Hicks of LAPS, the Lagos Animal Protection Society asking dog owners to be particularly vigilant.

She said: “Try to keep your dog cool at all times. Good ways to do this include putting crushed ice into a bag or using a towel you have placed in the freezer to rub on the back of the dog’s neck.”
