Hospitals hire 1,564 new specialists earlier than expected

Hospitals in Portugal have been authorised to hire 1,564 newly-trained specialists to ensure the normal functioning of emergency services, accelerating the recruitment process by about three months. In a statement issued today, the Executive Board of Portugal’s health service (DE-SNS) explained that when the doctors to be recruited correspond to permanent needs to ensure the emergency services – specialities that cover about 90% of hospital vacancies – a generic favourable decision is issued, “with no need for any additional request by the institutions to this DE-SNS, I.P.” According to the DE-SNS, this framework “only applies to newly-specialised doctors who complete their specialised training in the 2023 normal season”.
