HOSPITALS ARE being recommended to reduce the amount of waste they produce from 1,400 tonnes to 615 tonnes per year as part of an initiative to encourage responsible disposal of hospital waste.
The biggest cuts, according to Quercus, an environmental association, will be able to be made in the accident and emergency sectors of hospitals, while further cuts could be made if more appropriate equipment is supplied to hospital departments leading to a reduction in waste.
