Hospital treatment deserves praise

Dear Editor,

My wife has had treatment and an operation for cancer within the various Faro hospital departments over the last three months.

We have been very impressed with the care and professional treatment at all levels and have therefore sent the following letter to the doctors and staff in Portuguese, translated as follows:

“To the doctors and all the staff,

Both my wife, who has had treatment and an operation for cancer, and myself would like to thank all of you for the really excellent care and treatment Sarah has received ever since she started her cure. All within the control of your staff.

Sarah has been well looked after ever since she began her long drawn-out cure and we have both found all members of the staff to be kindness itself, always pleased to help in any way possible.

We have no doubt at all that the hospital, within its limits, has been wonderful in the way we have been looked after and all the staff have, in our opinion, been exceptional. Especially as it would seem that they have a great deal of work to do all the time. All we can say to them is “well done and a very big thank you.”

There is no doubt in our minds that a new and up to date general hospital is very necessary and is required urgently, however we very much doubt there can be any improvement in the care and efficiency practiced by all the staff. So again our heartfelt thanks to all of you.

With kind regards to everyone, Sarah and Jeremy Bull.”

It has probably been a help that we can talk Portuguese reasonably well, but we noticed one or two other patients who were unable to speak Portuguese received the same care from the staff.

I trust other people who read this letter will feel happier if they need serious medical treatment within the Faro district here in the Algarve.

Jeremy Bull
