Saturday’s 150,000 euros Bonusprint.com Gold Cup at Cheltenham saw the seasonal return of the previously injured Martin Pipe stable star, Our Vic. The six-year-old is still a novice having had only three runs over fences and this was his first outing in handicap company. Jockey, Timmy Murphy, always had the 11/4 favourite travelling sweetly and was drawing away from his field taking the last. Although jumping cleanly, Our Vic veered to the right upon landing and then crumpled to the ground. A screen was erected but, fortunately, the horse was found to be only winded. Second favourite, Monkerhustin, took full advantage of Our Vic’s departure, powering up the hill to win by seven lengths. The unfortunate incident does not stop Our Vic from going for the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day and I still predict a big future for the horse.
