For a very last minute or belated Christmas gift to a horse or wine lover, a small selection of pieces made from recycled horse shoes are on display and available for sale from the offices of Fine & Country estate agents and at Earth Café, both located in Carvoeiro.
Wine racks, either with oak barrel surrounds for 12 bottles (€290) or for six bottles made just from horse shoes (€80), are amongst the most popular items designed and made by Farrier, blacksmith and artist Nicole Crosby, a regular visitor to Carvoeiro who lives and works in the Scottish Highlands near Inverness.
Other pieces available locally include lamp stands and larger items such as dog baskets can be made to order. But perhaps Nicole’s most impressive piece is a life-sized horse’s head sculpture which sits in the garden of her parents’ home overlooking Loch Shin.
