PJ police investigate possible strangling followed by suicide
Police are investigating the death of a 77-year-old man and 74-year-old woman who were found dead in their house by their son. Authorities believe the man may have strangled his wife before hanging himself.
PSP police were alerted at around 6.15am on Sunday by the couple’s son, who received a text message from his father asking him to come to his parents’ house urgently, reports Jornal de Notícias. His parents were already dead when he arrived.
Adds JN, his mother – who is believed to have suffered from depression and Alzheimer’s disease – was lying in bed and had ropes around her neck while his father was hanging in the backyard.
The Criminal Investigation Department of Portimão’s PJ police was called and investigated the scene for hours.
The bodies were taken to Portimão’s legal medicine office where autopsies were due to take place.
