Horrific attack leaves man naked and disfigured in Sintra

A horrific attack left a man naked and disfigured in a street in the Belas district of Sintra in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Thanks to prompt action by a local resident, the 46-year-old man, thought to be a local resident, was rushed to hospital where he underwent a number of surgeries to repair damage caused by stab wounds and the “severe beating” he had suffered.
Police believe the case involves a “settling of scores” within the criminal fraternity.
For the time being, the man remains in a serious condition in Lisbon’s Santa Maria hospital.
Detectives are treating the case as an attempted murder.
Firemen, INEM and the PSP were the first to the scene as the victim was reported to be in and out of consciousness and with difficulty breathing.
A police source said it is unlikely the man would have survived if he had not been found by the quick-thinking passer-by.
