Hope for Fábrica

Silves Mayor Isabel Soares hopes that the cultural and recreational facility Fábrica do Inglês, which closed a year ago, may reopen soon but admits there are difficulties in finding investors for the space.

The complex opened in 1999, housing the Cork Museum, a dining area and entertainment activities, but closed its doors in May 2010 due to financial difficulties.

Isabel Soares said: “There was an investor interested in the complex this summer, but he gave up on his intentions.”

Fábrica do Inglês represented an investment of €12 million with the museum alone attracting around 90,000 visitors annually in the last three years of activity.
