England’s game in Poland was marred by outbreaks of violence shortly after the home team’s equaliser. Riot police had to step in as rival fan blocks bombarded each other with seats and coins. Worse scenes followed the Albania-Greece encounter. Tear gas had to be used to break up street fights, resulting in a 20-year old Albanian being stabbed to death and leaving a further seven supporters seriously injured. A 22-year-old Greek fan has been arrested and charged with murder.
