The Portuguese and Russian national men’s handball sides proved evenly matched during two friendly encounters in Lagos last weekend. An official re-count was needed on Saturday to establish that the game had actually been drawn 29-29 and not won 30-28 by the Russians as previously reported, while the hosts emerged the 29-26 winners on Sunday.
Russia will now take part in the World Championships in Spain while Portugal continue their preparations for Euro’2014.
