Homeless

AROUND 26 people have been made homeless in Cascais as 13 illegally constructed homes were torn down, as part of the council’s plan to eradicate shanty towns.

The residents, who are predominantly young males, protested against the council’s decision to tear down their housing without success. However, the câmara has promised to re-home all of the people living within the buildings being torn down but an association helping the displaced citizens has said that the government’s numbers are wrong. It claims that at least 110 families are not included in the re-housing scheme.
