Homeless man found hanging at Quarteira bus station

The body of a 50-year-old homeless man was found hanging by the neck from a metallic structure at Quarteira’s bus station last month, police have confirmed.

Authorities were called to the macabre scene in the early hours of the morning after alerts from eye witnesses.

The man’s body was hanging over one of the bus station’s benches.

Understood to have been Portuguese, the dead man was described as having been seen sleeping at the station for some time. He is also understood to have suffered from “psychological problems”.

His body was taken for autopsy to Faro’s Institute of Legal Medicine.

Last week, the Resident published a lengthy article on homelessness in the Algarve. Quarteira featured as a town with many living rough on the streets.
