Coimbra has registered an exponential increase in the number of homeless people living rough on the streets. In the space of two years, figures have leapt from the already high 593 to 714. Paulo Pereira of the city’s homeless association said: “We have the complete certainty that the tendency is for this number to go on increasing”, with the middle classes “filling these numbers”.
