Former Portimão manager and promotion hero Litos was always going to be assured a warm welcome when returning south with joint Liga Orangina leaders Leixoes on Sunday afternoon.
But he and fellow ‘old boys’ fitness coach Nuno Costa and star forward Jumisse surely did not expect their homecoming to be quite as ‘hot’ as it turned out to be.
Portimonense shot out of the starting blocks and were two up through Rafa and Simi within 25 minutes.
The visitors never recovered and although able to reduce the deficit from the penalty spot shortly before the final whistle were always flattered by the
2-1 scoreline.
Portimão are still bottom of the table but such is the competitiveness of the division that 16th and second place are separated by only four points.
Coach João Bastos’ rapidly improving team will be back in league action against Covilha following the international break and their third round Portuguese Cup showdown with Benfica next Friday.
