Algarve History Association (AHA) presents the fourth concert in its 2017/18 series with an Armenian accent. Trio Aeternus will perform the world premiere of the “Homage to Komitas” by Ardashes Agoshian, in the presence of the composer himself who is travelling from Yerevan (Armenia) to attend the concert on Sunday, November 19 at Quintinha da Música, near Tavira, at 4pm.
The AHA, in partnership with the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, was honoured to sponsor the composition of this work.
Armenian music was first brought to international attention by Komitas a century ago. He collected fragments of Armenian folk melodies, and is regarded as the founder of the Armenian national school of music.
Two Pieces by Komitas (in an arrangement by Varoujan Bartikian) introduce the second half of the concert. Varoujan is himself Armenian, and is principal cellist with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon.
Other works in this ground-breaking concert include the Trio Op 32 by the Russian composer Anton Arensky (d 1906) and the Trio Op 15 by Smetana, the only piano trio written by him.
Tickets cost €25. Reservations are available from:
