Inspectors at Tarbes-Lourdes airport in France have been stopping passengers from taking holy water on the Vatican’s new pilgrim flights, saying it is a security threat like any other liquid.
The water comes from a grotto where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared. The Vatican has now dealt with this issue by placing a bottle of the holy water on each seat. The Vatican’s new 737 service aims to serve 150,000 pilgrims a year, taking them to religiously significant sites such as Mount Sinai in Egypt.
