FIESA, THE international sand sculpture festival in Pêra, officially opened its doors to the public on Thursday, May 22.
Invited guests were amazed at the variety and size of the sculptures. This year, the theme for the festival is Hollywood, with a sand Charlie Chaplin welcoming visitors into the exhibition.

popular television and cinema characters such as Spiderman, the Simpson family, ET and King Kong among many others from a variety of film and television genres including cartoons, horror, comedy, action and adventure.

including some from Portugal, Latvia, Czech Republic, Holland, Canada, Brazil and the US.
The instrumental guitar band Amar Guitarra played throughout the opening night on a sand-sculptured stage with music from film scores, such as the James Bond theme tune, as well as pieces composed by themselves.

a member of the band, told The Resident: “Fiesa is an incredible place to play as a band.”
Stalls selling craft items, clothing, jewellery and traditional liqueurs are also present at the fair this year and children were kept entertained with a large sandpit with toys.
