Learn about the history surrounding the Marquês de Pombal during the next session of Algarve History Association talks.
The Marquês de Pombal is a historic figure in Portugal who still arouses controversy, and the talks will be addressing whether or not he was a great reformer in the age of enlightenment or if he was an anti religious despot who enriched himself and his family at the expense of the lives and freedoms of others.
Peter Booker will attempt to answer these questions during the talks, the first taking place on July 26 from 6.30pm at the municipal library in Lagoa costing €2 and the second, with free admission, at the municipal library in Tavira on July 29 from 11am.
