Learn about the history of the church of São Roque in Lisbon during talks by Dr Ron Thomson given as part of the Algarve History Association.
Ron B. Thomson was a Fellow at the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies in Toronto from 1980 until his retirement in 2008 and his normal fields of study include the history of mathematical astronomy and the War of the Two Brothers.
He has been visiting the Algarve since 1971 and owns a small farm near Lagoa and will be exploring the history of the church, one of the first Jesuit churches anywhere and one of the few to survive the 1755 earthquake, during talks to be held at the convent in Lagoa on December 14 from 6.30pm and at the municipal library in Tavira on December 17 from 11am.
Admission to the talk in Lagoa costs €2 while the talk in Tavira is free to attend.
