High-standard bowling in Algarve

Congratulations are due to Floresta Bowls Club, as February 14 and 16 saw the final two rounds of the Super 10s take place. Many supporters watched Albufeira Cats win their home leg 6-2 on Tuesday with Floresta winning their home leg 6-2 on Thursday, making the final score 8-8. Floresta takes the trophy on a shot difference of 34.

This competition saw supporters treated to bowling of the highest standard highlighted by winning shots from Bob Parkinson and Gerry Parr of Albufeira Cats, which turned a possible 6-2 defeat for the Cats into a 6-2 victory in the first leg.

The second leg at Floresta saw bowling of the same high standard. In the singles, Bob Parkinson came up against Geoff Hargreaves who produced his game of the year to take the win, whilst an incredible match between Dennis Mole and Roger Crowther of Albufeira and Gerry Kinane and Jeff Wright of Floresta saw the lead change nine times before Gerry and Jeff won by two shots.

On February 18, Balaia Bowls Club played their Bowls Algarve League Week 21 matches. The PODS Team lost all three rinks away to Tavira Tigers, whilst the Whalers played at home to Alvor Scorpions winning two of three rinks. This maintains the PODS as the strongest team in the league supporting all the rest from the bottom.

Balaia welcomes bowlers of all levels, whether new or experienced, and has its Roll Up on Tuesdays and Fridays at 09.45am for 10am start. All are welcome.
